Former Super Bowl champion Keyshawn Johnson believes the Georgia Bulldogs need to beat the Texas Longhorns to be in the College Football Playoff conversation. In Wednesday's episode of "All Facts No Brakes with Keyshawn Johnson," the former NFL star discussed with his son, Keyshawn Johnson Jr., Georgia's path to the CFP.
When asked if he thought Kirby Smart's team could get in if it lost the SEC championship game against Texas on Saturday, Johnson said (Timestamp: 5:20):
"No, they don't, because they're a three-loss team. Even though they beat some of the other SEC teams that were behind them, that didn't play in the SEC championship. But if you've got three losses, you don't deserve it. ... I think the only way they get in is by winning."
He also clarified that he sees Texas' case as completely different:
"Texas, on the other hand, if they were to lose, they still deserve to be in a championship game"
The fifth-ranked Bulldogs (10-2, No. 5 CFP) and the second-ranked Longhorns (11-1, No. 2 CFP) are set to play for the SEC championship on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Georgia's Kirby Smart praises Texas' Arch Manning
While Texas' starting quarterback for Saturday's game will be Quinn Ewers, barring an unprecedented event, Georgia's Kirby Smart seems to have been preparing for backup quarterback Arch Manning, too.
Here's what Smart said about Manning ahead of the SEC championship game:
“He’s what everybody thought he was. He’s athletic, smart, thick. Great thrower. He can run their entire offense, while at the same time creating designed runs or off-schedule runs. Both are scary. Because designed runs, with him, are tough to defend because you’re having to defend the whole field. And then he’s also an elite thrower and passer.
"I mean, he’s a great player."
While Manning has taken a back seat to Ewers, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has successfully used him in one-off situations. Understandably, Smart would want to cover all his bases in a game in which even the slightest detail may prove to be the separating factor between Texas and Georgia.
