Cormani McClain has entered the transfer portal as the cornerback seeks a move away from Colorado after just one season. Recruited as a five-star prospect who flipped from Miami, the cornerback had issues with his playing time last season that have led to his departure.
In a recent video, the athlete disclosed his plans for the future, openly discussing his dissatisfaction with Coach Prime's program with a subtle shot:
"I'm just ready to bring the old version of me out and change the narrative of everyone's thinking on my name, be a part of a real and a great program that's going to impact me at my best ability. I feel like I just don't want to play for the clicks. I actually want to be involved with a great leading program that's going to develop players."
Deion Sanders wishes Cormani McClain the best
Losing a five-star recruit is no doubt a big deal in the world of college football. However, Deion Sanders wished Cormani McClain well in his endeavor in a recent installment of the "DNVR" podcast.
"I'm always in prayer for our young men, and I want the best for them. I pray to God that he goes to a program that challenges him as well as holds him accountable and develops him as a young man," Sanders said.
"Unfortunately, we weren't the program that could accomplish that. So, preferably he understands that this is the second go-round and get it. Go get it, man, because he has a tremendous amount of talent. But he has to want it.”
McClain is one of several Colorado players who have entered the transfer portal this offseason.
Deion Sanders' previous criticism of Cormani McClain
During last season, Cormani McClain expressed dissatisfaction with his playing time and requested more opportunities. Deion Sanders' response during a news conference was direct and critical of the cornerback.
"He's got to prepare," Sanders said. "Study, prepare, be on time for meetings, show up to the darn meetings, understand what we're doing as a scheme, want to play this game, desire to be the best in this game, at practice, in the film room and in your own free time."
McClain gradually earned more playing time as the season unfolded. His role expanded to starting in Week 6 against Arizona State. Subsequently, he also started in Colorado's final three games of the season. Nonetheless, that wasn't enough to keep him in Boulder.
