Donovan Edwards was born on February 25, 2003. Coming out of West Bloomfield High School, the 2020 Gatorade Michigan Football Player of the Year is a running back on the Wolverines roster.

As Edwards gears up for his first season under new head coach Sherrone Moore, let us have a look at his career and notable achievements so far.

Donovan Edwards' career stats

Edwards was viewed as a five-star running back prospect by 247Sports during his recruitment. He went on to make his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines in 2020 over programs like Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and others. Edwards then enrolled early into the program in January 2021.

During his freshman campaign in Ann Arbor in 2021, Donovan Edwards got limited playing time in 12 games under the guidance of former head coach Jim Harbaugh. The young running back did not disappoint as a freshman, tallying a total of 174 rushing yards and three touchdowns along with 265 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

One of the highlights during Edwards' Wolverines debut season was during the Big Ten title game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. He received a backward pass from then-starting QB Cade McNamara and then showed off his arm accuracy, lobbing a 75-yard touchdown pass to ex-wide receiver Roman Wilson. The Wolverines finished the season with a 12-2 overall record

During his sophomore campaign in 2021, Edwards started in three of the 11 games he played. He recorded a total of 991 rushing yards and seven touchdowns along with 200 receiving yards and two TDs. The Wolverines finished the season with just one loss (13-1), which came at the hands of the TCU Horned Frogs during the CFP semifinal showdown.

Donovan Edwards arguably put up his best performance in the 2022 season against rivals the Ohio State Buckeyes. Due to his resilience and impressive performance, Michigan secured a 45-23 victory, with Edwards putting up 216 rushing yards and two incredible touchdowns in the fourth quarter of the game.

Last season, Edwards was a part of Harbaugh's undefeated national championship team right from the start. He played in all games during the 2023 season and finished with a total of 497 rushing yards and five touchdowns along with 249 receiving yards.

Donovan Edwards' notable achievements and records

As Edwards returns for his senior year in Ann Arbor, he has so far recorded many notable achievements with the program. The RB has won three consecutive Big Ten Titles with the Wolverines under the guidance of ex-head coach Jim Harbaugh. Not only this, but, Edwards was also a part of the undefeated roster that went on to clinch the national championship last season.

During the 2022 rivalry game against Ohio State, Edwards also became the only player in Michigan's history to have a TD pass, TD catch, and TD run of at least 75 yards. At last season's national championship game against Washington, Donovan Edwards became the first player since the launch of BCS in 1998, to have two 40+ yards rushing touchdowns in a natty game.

He was also named the Big Ten Championship game MVP for the 2022 season against Purdue. This offseason, he also was honored as one of the cover athletes on EA Sports College Football 25 alongside Quinn Ewers and Travis Hunter. Now, with the Wolverines set to begin a new era under Sherrone Moore, Edwards has been given the responsibility of being the captain to lead his team on the gridiron.
