Bill Belichick had a tremendous career in the NFL, winning six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. However, his career is shifting to college football. Belichick signed a five-year, $50 million contract with the North Carolina Tar Heels on Wednesday.

With Belichick coming to college football, several people in the industry have welcomed him. Most recently, Deion Sanders, coach of the No. 23-ranked Colorado Buffaloes, gave Belichick a warm welcome. He compared Belichick to former Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

"Coach Bill Belichick is a coaches Coach to All us Coaches along with my man Coach Saban! They’re game changers and they know how to move people forward. I know this is a great thing for College Football & for North Carolina. God bless u Coach, if you’re happy I am 2!"

Bill Belichick moves to college football after a tremendous NFL career

Bill Belichick is one of the most respected football coaches of all time, as can be seen by the statement of Coach Prime. However, he has not spent any time as a coach of a college football team in his nearly 50-year career.

He got his start as a special assistant with the Baltimore Colts in 1975 shortly after graduating from university. He was then an assistant coach for several teams over the next 15 years before getting his first head coaching opportunity.

Bill Belichick was hired as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 1991 and would coach there for five seasons, until 1995. He had limited success with the Browns, only making one playoff appearance, in 1994. The Browns then fired him after the 1995 season.

For the next four seasons, Belichick spent time as an assistant coach for the New England Patriots and New York Jets. Afterward, he was hired as the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2000. He would hold the job until 2023 when the team and coach mutually parted ways.

In his time with New England, Bill Belichick won six Super Bowls (2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 and 2018) and was named the AP NFL Coach of the Year three times (2003, 2007 and 2010).

Despite his success in the NFL, he has a new challenge as a college football coach. College football is very different from the NFL because of the talent disparity. As a result, Belichick will need to adapt to this level.
