NFL teams are reportedly scouting quarterback Drew Allar for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently leading the No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions to a successful run in the College Football Playoff.
On Saturday, The Athletic's Dane Brugler reported on X/Twitter that NFL general managers believe the starting quarterback could enter the draft if he continues his strong performance in the tournament.
"I know Drew Allar 'intends' to return to Penn St. in 2025. But...There are several NFL GMs who believe Allar could enter the 2025 NFL Draft with a strong playoff run. Teams are still heavily scouting him for the 2025 class," Brugler posted.
Penn State (13-2, 8-1 Big Ten) had a dominant 31-14 victory over the No. 3 Boise State Broncos (12-2, 7-0 Mountain West Conference) in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. Allar finished the game by completing 13 of 25 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns.
So far, the NFL draft prospect has completed 250 passes for 3,192 yards and 24 touchdowns for the season. He is 19th in passing yards in the league and third in the Big Ten.
College football insider Rob Stone warned fans about Drew Allar entering the 2025 NFL Draft
On the Dec. 18, 2024 episode of "The Triple Option," Rob Stone discussed the possibility of the draft prospect leaving Penn State. The team had lost backup quarterback Beau Pribula after he entered the transfer portal on Dec. 15.
Stone asked his co-host about the ramifications of the Penn State passing leader leaving the team after the College Football Playoff and how it could affect the program next season.
"What if Drew Allar - whose got the prototype right? He's got the measurables that the NFL is looking at, and he's improved every single year - What if Drew Allar absolutely balls in December and January, and his NFL stock starts going up like this (points in upward motion)?", Stone said (9:07 onwards).
Allar leaving would force coach James Franklin to figure out who would be the new starting quarterback for Penn State.
The Nittany Lions will take on the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (13-1) in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Jan. 9. Notre Dame is coming off a commanding 23-10 win over the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (11-3, 6-2 SEC) in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Wednesday. Quarterback Riley Leonard ended the contest by completing 15 of 24 passes for 90 yards and one touchdown.
The semifinal playoff matchup will occur at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. DraftKings has the Fighting Irish as a -125 favorite to end Penn State's playoff run. However, a win and another strong performance by Allar may continue to generate intrigue for him to declare for the NFL Draft.
