No.3 ranked Penn State (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) quarterback Drew Allar suffered an apparent injury in the 28-13 win over Wisconsin (5-3, 3-2) on Saturday. Allar left the field with a limp in the second quarter and headed to the locker room shortly after. The injury puts his status in doubt for next week's important game against No. 4 Ohio State.

Drew Allar injury update

Drew Allar left the game in the second quarter and was replaced by backup quarterback Beau Pribula. Although Allar came out of the tunnel for the second half and was seen practicing his throws on the sideline, he did not return to the game. He celebrated with his teammates at the end of the game but was seen wearing a knee brace.

The Penn State coaching staff has not revealed an official update on Allar's status since the game. They did not reveal the nature of his injury, though because he was wearing a knee brace, that seems to be the affected area. An update will likely come in Penn State's next injury report.

What happened to Drew Allar?

It is not 100% clear what caused the injury to Drew Allar because he finished his last drive of the game. He played the entire first half but when he left the field after his last drive of the second quarter, he was seen limping and left the field before the rest of his team.

Allar returned to the field for the second half but did not participate. Penn State coach James Franklin said he told reporters Allar would return in the third quarter, but that changed in warmups.

"[The decision] was, is he going to be mobile enough to give us a chance to run the offense the way we need to run the offense? It really came down to Drew."
"After we got out there and they got loosened up, Drew told me he couldn’t go. ... I asked [Drew] to be very, very honest with me. He just didn’t feel like he was going to be able to move well enough to go. Even at the end of the half there, you saw even throwing was challenging."

How would Penn State's offense be affected by Drew Allar's absence?

Penn State plays No. 4 Ohio State next Saturday in a matchup between two top-five-ranked teams. If Allar can't play, it will be a big hit to Penn State's offense. Allar is having an excellent season and has already thrown for 1640 yards and 12 TDs. Although Pribula played well in relief against Wisconsin, losing Allar would hurt the offense significantly.
