Alabama Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer took on the unenviable task of replacing retired legend Nick Saban to coach one of the most storied college football programs. He did not waste time as he immediately hit the recruitment trail hard, but some fans and analysts still have doubts about whether he will succeed.

After outspoken ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith questioned whether DeBoer could recreate the presence vacated by Saban on Friday's episode of "The First Take," comedian Druski fought back expressing his support for Alabama.

He chanted:

"Roll Tide! Roll Tide! Yeah. I don't give a piss about nothing but the Tide," Druski said.

Stephen A. Smith went on to discuss what he expects from DeBoer.

"He's(Kalen DeBoer) under immense pressure. But it's not to win a championship this year is to maintain an elevated level of relevancy. It's not just about winning. It's the mystique that Nick Saban brought to the equation. He held the cats accountable. Yeah, he was the face of college football. He was something, he let you know that the road to prosperity in some way, shape, form, or fashion had to go through him," Smith said.
"That's what Kalen DeBoer has to establish that it ain't changed in that regard. We won six national championships in 17 years with Nick Saban. That means 11 years we didn't win it. We understand that ain't gonna happen every year. But damn it be relevant. Be relevant," Smith continued.

Kalen DeBoer "overvalued" according to analyst

The Alabama Crimson Tide, under coach Kalen DeBoer, is ranked No. 5 in the recently released AP Preseason Top 25 Poll with only the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, and the Texas Longhorns ahead of them.

The discourse surrounding the Crimson Tide is around what would constitute an acceptable season for DeBoer after the retirement of Nick Saban who raised the expectations sky-high in Tuscaloosa.

The ranking in the preseason poll indicates that the belief in DeBoer is high, especially after leading the Washington Huskies to the national championship game against the eventual champions, the Michigan Wolverines.

Controversial ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum revealed on an episode of "Gojo and Golic" that he believes that Kalen DeBoer has been "overvalued" by both analysts and fans.

“I don’t want to sound like a Wall Street analyst, but I think they’re overvaluing him a little bit,” Finebaum said of Alabama fans. “And it’s nothing against him. I’ll spare you guys the resume. Everyone knows that it’s impeccable.
“But it’s a little bit like back in the day, maybe not quite as much now, but a Notre Dame loss on a Monday and the whole country is beside itself. It’s the same way at Alabama, except it’s a little more current because of Saban having just left. And I don’t think Kalen DeBoer’s prepared for that," Finebaum added.

During the SEC Media Days, Nick Saban surprised many fans by predicting that the Texas Longhorns and the Georgia Bulldogs would reach the SEC championship game instead of his former side — and perhaps backing up Finebaum's assertions.
