Former Philadelphia Eagles star DeSean Jackson was hired as the coach of the Delaware State Hornets, who compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, in December. Previously, he was the offensive coordinator at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School after retiring from the NFL in 2023.
On Wednesday, Jackson received the endorsement of Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders via an X post, who started his coaching journey as coach of the Jackson State Tigers in the FCS before moving to the FBS with the Colorado Tigers.
"We’ve got to wrap our arms around this game changer and give him all the support he needs to become a successful college football coach. He knows the game, knows what it takes to make it to the next level and he knows right from wrong. @DeSeanJackson10 Love ya Man! #CoachPrime," Sanders tweeted.
Coach Prime reposted his tweet on Instagram and Jackson dropped a 4-word reaction to Sander's support.
"Love you big brother," Jackson commented.
During an appearance on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday, the Buffs coach talked about inspiring black coaches to take jobs at HBCUs including Michael Vick at Norfolk State, Eddie George at Tennessee State and DeSean Jackson at Delaware State.
“I feel like I’m blessed to be a blessing," Sanders said. "Those guys you just mentioned, I’ve reached out to them and I want them to succeed immensely. So all the wrongs, rights, everything that I could give them, all the direction and guidance, I’m there for them.”
DeSean Jackson reveals Deion Sander's influence in new job
During an interview with Action Network on Wednesday, DeSean Jackson revealed how much Deion Sanders inspired him to take the job at Delaware State.
"Coach Deion Sanders opened the doors for guys like myself and Michael Vick to lead young men and change their lives and help give them motivation to make it," Jackson said.
"It's not like I'm coming in wet behind the years not knowing what to expect. You have a guy who was once here and changed the game, and now he's at Colorado."
DeSean Jackson will have his work cut out for him since Delaware State is on a 12-year winning season drought and has only won twice in the last two seasons. The Hornets last appeared in the postseason 18 years ago.
