Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck has struggled lately. Before a bounce-back 31-17 win over No. 7-ranked Tennessee, Beck was coming off a 28-10 loss to No. 16-ranked Ole Miss. In that game, he had an interception and a fumble. He only threw for 186 yards and was a big reason the Bulldogs lost.
Before that, he had a stretch of three games where he threw eight interceptions. It was a big step down in play for Beck who was in the Heisman conversation early in the year. ESPN analyst Holly Rowe talked to Carson Beck about his play in recent weeks. She spoke about the conversation on Thursday in an appearance on UGA Sports.
"So talking to Carson Beck about how he has dealt with adversity and challenges and not playing his best," she said. "I mean, it has been a real shock to his system to have the turnovers that he's had. Not all of them have been on him. Some guys have run the wrong routes, balls have been tipped, you know there's been different situations."
Holly Rowe speaks about the resilience of Carson Beck
When Holly Rowe discussed her conversation with Carson Beck, she sounded impressed by his resilience.
"The resilience of that young man and leading up to this game he's coming off another game with three turnovers and a loss against Ole Miss and I talked to him again on Friday and he said my idenity is not from football," Rowe said.
"I a man of faith. I believe in faith, in Christ, and I have bigger things that I identify with that are more important. I have peace in who I am."
She also talked about how Beck has done a good job of being secure in himself while he is getting a lot of hate online.
"I thought man, this is a young man who's going through the weight of the world," Rowe added. "People are being so mean to him online, like so mean to him. For him to have that sense of peace in who he is and what's important to him. He impresses me, it's hard and he really impressed me."
Despite Carson Beck's struggles in recent weeks, the No. 8 Bulldogs (8-2) are still in a good position. They defeated a top-ranked team in Tennessee on Saturday and are positioned to make the playoffs. They play the UMass Minutemen (2-8) next on Saturday.
