Ohio State head coach Ryan Day lost a third consecutive game against rival Michigan in the 2023 college football season. This has placed him under significant pressure at Columbus.

In his recent appearance on SiriusXM radio, the coach explained the latest loss to the Wolverines.

"Every year you gotta look at it and figure out, what it was," Day said. "You look at the first couple years and, you know, you try to identify what exactly went on in that game, and, you know, you make changes."
"Why didn't we finish it in the fourth quarter the way that we wanted to?" he continued. "And so you look at all these different things and you make the decision … That was a very good team, but we still should have won the game. We didn't.”

Ryan Day’s belief that the Buckeyes should have won the game hasn't gone well with a lot of college football fans. Many feel the coach is only making excuses and not taking responsibility for the loss to Michigan. Here’s a look at some of the reactions online:

More reactions online were critical of Day:

"Woulda, coulda, shoulda, Coach Third Base just can’t accept that Harbaugh is better than him," a fan wrote.
"Bruh you never had a lead in that game," another fan wrote
"Didn’t win because they weren’t good enough… end of discussion," commented another fan.

Meanwhile, one fan had a frank message for Day.

"C’mon man! Own up to the L’s and do better," the fan said.

Ryan Day says Ohio State wants to win against Michigan in 2024

Ahead of the 2024 college football season, Ryan Day outlined the goals of the Buckeyes for the year during his session at the Big Ten Media Days. One of the major ambitions of the program for the season is to defeat Michigan and end the Wolverines’ winning streak in the series.

“We want to win the rivalry game, be in this stadium right here to win a Big Ten championship and win the national championship," Ryan Day said per the Dayton Daily News.
“So where the season goes and what this team looks like will look a lot different than it did last year. This is a new journey. We have to rebuild that to get to where we need to be.”

On the flip side, new Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore also noted that his team wants to continue the streak against Ohio State next season. Moore led the Wolverines to a win against the Buckeyes last season following the suspension of Jim Harbaugh by the Big Ten.
