Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has been the name on every college football fan’s lips after his performance in the Peach Bowl on Wednesday. However, Skattebo’s heroics weren’t enough to secure a win against Texas.
Skattebo lit up the field with 143 rushing yards, two touchdowns, eight receptions for 99 yards and a 42-yard touchdown pass in the Sun Devils’ 39-31 loss to the No. 4 Texas Longhorns.
Despite the defeat, the Heisman Trophy fifth-place finisher’s grit and determination were hard to ignore.
During the game, cameras caught him throwing up on the sidelines, prompting speculation online. Addressing the incident on "The Dan Patrick Show," Skattebo said:
“I think I drank a little too much water and Powerade… I had a croissant breakfast sandwich that didn’t sit well.”
However, social media wasn’t convinced, with one fan accusing him of being out late the night before. Skattebo clapped back, calling the critic “a clown” and clarifying, “If you knew anything about me, you know I don’t drink.”
Former SMU wide receiver Deion Sanders Jr. chimed in with his support on Thursday, tweeting:
“You at the top, my brother. They gone do whatever they can to dim your light. Keep going! F**** them people.”

Cam Skattebo has college football analyst swooning over his potential
Arizona State’s senior running back captured the hearts of college football fans and analysts with his Peach Bowl performance. The Sun Devils had a fairytale season, taking down ranked teams and winning the Big 12 championship before falling to Texas.
College football analyst Joel Klatt called Skattebo “a legend” for his heroic efforts to push his team toward victory.
“Cam Skattebo is a legend. I've never seen anything like it, particularly the effort Skattebo made to get his team in a position to win,” Klatt said [27:45].
Skattebo’s bruising, physical running style wreaked havoc on defenses all season, and Steve Sarkisian’s team was no different. The 22-year-old RB racked up 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns while recording 45 catches for 605 yards and three scores.
On "The Dan Patrick Show," Skattebo revealed that his playing style draws inspiration from greats like Christian McCaffrey, Marshawn Lynch and Mark Ingram, blending power with patience on the field.
Boasting a 5-foot-11 and 215-pound structure, Skattebo’s physicality has drawn comparisons to Lynch, but his receiving ability is reminiscent of McCaffrey. He transferred to ASU in 2023 and quickly settled into coach Kenny Dillingham’s system, finishing fifth in Heisman voting.
