Did Deion Sanders instruct band to not play school's fight song? Explaining the viral rumor

Ever since Colorado's game against North Dakota State in Week 1, rumors have been swirling about coach Deion Sanders reportedly telling the band not to play the school's traditional fight song, i.e., “Fight CU,” and instead instructing them to play his son and quarterback Shedeur Sanders' song, "Perfect Timing," when the quarterback scores a touchdown.

However, Trey Wallace of OutKick reports that Colorado spokesperson Curtis Snyder has denied the widespread rumor, saying Coach Prime didn't give out any such instruction to the team's band. He added light to the matter.

“This is not true,” the statement reads [via Curtis Snyder]. “Nobody ever asked the band to refrain from playing the fight song. After a touchdown, the band plays “Glory, Glory, Colorado” and after a point after touchdown, the band plays “Fight CU” as has been standard practice for years.

"When Shedeur Sanders scores, the band will wait a moment a moment for a small snippet of Shedeur’s song to play before immediately kicking into “Glory, Glory, Colorado. This is exactly what happened during the game against North Dakota State," the statement further said.

Snyder concluded by saying the practice was not unique to Shedeur Sanders, noting that this is also the case when kicker Alejandro Mata successfully kicks a field goal.

How did the alleged band rumors concerning Deion Sanders start?

After a humiliating 28-10 loss against Matt Rhule's Nebraska Cornhuskers, Denver Sports analyst Jake Shapiro said in his report that Deion Sanders wanted his son Shedeur Sanders' rap song "Perfect Timing" to be played over speakers instead of the traditional fight song of CU, which has been played over the years.

"Deion Sanders told the band they couldn’t play if his son Shedeur Sanders scores a touchdown so that the loudspeaker can play a recording of his son’s song “Perfect Timing,”" Shapiro wrote in his article.

The report got more attention because Shapiro, as per Sports Illustrated, is an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado.

FOX Sports commentator and CU alum Joel Klatt has also denied such claims that Coach Prime made any such order.

"This false...that is all," Klatt tweeted.

Coach Prime and Deion Sanders Jr. have also come forward on social media, rubbishing the report.
