The Texas Tech Red Raiders ended their apparel partnership with Under Armour after 18 years of collaboration. On Monday, the program announced its partnership with apparel giant Adidas on a long-term 10-year deal.

The Red Raiders revealed the Adidas logo on the Jones AT&T Stadium. They also disclosed that former alumni and Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had his Gladiator logo embossed on the gridiron.

Mahomes is a Ring of Honor inductee at the institution and one of its most famous products. As a part of the Adidas deal, the Texas Tech, Patrick Mahomes and Adidas logos appear on the field.

The partnership between the parties will not end there with collaborations for apparel in the works. Mahomes released a statement after the deal was confirmed.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for Texas Tech and I’m proud to have helped bring Red Raider Nation into the three-stripe fam,” Mahomes said in the news release. “Today is just the beginning of an incredible partnership with Adidas, so stay tuned for more to come this fall that we’re excited to be working on together!”

Fans on X debated about coach Joey McGuire's team's switch from Under Armour to Adidas.

Texas Tech has Patrick Mahomes to thank for the Adidas partnership

Patrick Mahomes has shown his dedication to his former program several times before. However, he might have given them a massive helping hand by helping to secure them an elite apparel deal with Adidas.

Mahomes has been an Adidas athlete since being an NFL rookie in 2017. And with his three Super Bowl wins, he has likely become the company's most high-profile ambassador.

In an internal interview, Red Raiders senior associate athletics director Robert Giovannetti revealed Mahomes spoke of a partnership between his alma mater and Adidas.

"He (Mahomes) always invites Kirby to his summer golf tournament," Giovannetti said, "and Patrick was just talking to him about, 'hey, we need to get adidas and Texas Tech together.' He talked about his new brand, his gladiator brand, and so that kind of kicked things off.

"There's a couple other schools that wanted to be first. Patrick wanted Texas Tech to be first."

Only the Red Raiders' football and baseball teams will have the uniforms featuring Patrick Mahomes' Gladiator logo. However, it could be incorporated for other teams at a later date.
