Former Kentucky Wildcats wide receiver Randall Cobb spent last season with the New York Jets on the recommendation of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Thursday, ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed that the wide receiver would transition into a role as a college football analyst with the SEC Network.
After the news was announced, the NFL star released a statement expressing his delight at the new role.
“I am incredibly excited to be coming home to the SEC with this new role,” Cobb said. “The level of greatness this conference provides year after year is unmatched — I cannot wait return to the conference family with this SEC Network crew.”
In his three-year career with the Wildcats, Cobb registered 1,661 yards on 144 receptions resulting in 13 touchdowns and added 1,313 rushing yards resulting in 22 touchdowns.
Although primarily a wide receiver, Cobb also played 11 games as a quarterback for Kentucky during his freshman year when he received SEC All-Freshmen honors.
His exploits for the Wildcats earned him two first-team All-SEC and one first-team All-American honors before the Green Bay Packers drafted him in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He has since been inducted into the Kentucky Wildcats' Athletic Hall of Fame.
College football fans on X reacted to the news of Cobb's new role as an analyst with the SEC Network.
Most fans were happy at his appointment and congratulated him.

Randall Cobb has had a storied career since being picked in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers with whom he had two separate stints. He also played for the Dallas Cowboys, the Houston Texans and the New York Jets.
In his 13-year NFL career, Cobb has amassed various records. He is ranked No. 5 in the Packers' history for receptions (532), No. 10 for touchdown receptions (47) and No. 11 for receiving yards (6,316 yards). In 2014, he made the Pro Bowl.
During his NFL career, Randall Cobb formed a unique connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, registering 496 receptions for 5,943 yards resulting in 49 touchdowns from the legendary QB to create one of the most lethal partnerships in the NFL.
NFL Network analyst Mike Garafolo said that Cobb would still be open to playing in the NFL during the upcoming season despite his new role as an analyst and that it was not a retirement announcement.
