Louisville quarterback Jack Plummer made the headlines with his performance against Notre Dame, where he went 17-of-24 for 145 passing yards and one touchdown to cause the upset.
Plummer recently teamed up with Tom Drexler's Plumbing company for his latest NIL deal, which utilizes clever wordplay and the quarterback's convenient last name for its cheeky advertisement on billboards.
Speaking about the deal, the Cardinals QB was pretty matter-of-fact due to the coincidental wordplay on his name.
"Given my last name, it's something that, when NIL came out, I thought it would be a good idea to partner with a plumbing company," Plummer said.
Tom Drexler was pretty hyped at the free advertising windfall that would occur due to the collaboration.
"We're like 'Duh,' how did we not already think of that as soon as we knew he was coming?" Drexler said. "He's just really a stellar guy, laid back and fun to work with."
CFB fans had fun with the advertisement on X (formerly Twitter).
The NIL deal with Drexler was negotiated with the help of Louisville NIL collective, '502 Circle,' which focuses on NIL deals involving the football team. Plummer's deal has seen his NIL valuation reach $451,000, according to On3.
The Jack Plummer story
Jack Plummer is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in college football, having played five seasons and is currently in the last year of eligibility.
He first played under his current Louisville coach, Jeff Brohm, at Purdue, where he lasted four years. As a starter, he completed 319 of 492 passes for 3,405 yards, resulting in 26 touchdowns.
After transferring to California via the transfer portal, Plummer only lasted one season, throwing for 3,095 yards, resulting in 21 touchdowns.
At Louisville, the QB has thrown for 1,551 yards with 12 touchdowns.
His best game for Louisville was an explosion of production where he threw for 388 yards and six touchdowns against Boston College in a 56-28 beat down.
On an On3 podcast, Brohm elaborated on his quarterback's strengths and weaknesses.
“Jack was easy. That’s his strength. He’s very smart, very intelligent. He picks things up fast,” Brohm said. “Getting him back here was an easy transition. He’s been a great leader plays really hard. If he has any fault, he probably cares too much. Sometimes, he presses a little bit and forces things."
Brohm listed all the qualities that made Jack Plummer such an ideal QB for his side.
“But, you know what, he’ll continue to play well for us and battle through a little adversity here and there, and he’s battle tested. I just think he’s a guy you can depend on that will give you everything he has. It’s not always going to be perfect. But at the same time, he’s going to play to the end and he’s done a good job.”
With coach and player in sync, the Louisville Cardinals can be counted on to cause an upset or two before the season ends.
