Quarterback Bryce Underwood's de-commitment has created further problems for Brian Kelly at LSU. The No. 1 prospect in the class of 2025 had been committed to the Tigers since January. However, the quarterback flipped his commitment to Michigan on Thursday ahead of early signing day.
Kelly hasn’t had it good at Baton Rouge lately. The Tigers have dropped the last three games to fall 6-4 on the season, virtually eliminating any hopes of making the playoffs. Things only went from bad to worse on Thursday after Bryce Underwood decommitted from the program.
This subsequently thickened the growing calls to fire Brian Kelly. Fans have now found more reasons to intensify the push to end the coach's tenure in Baton Rouge.
Here's a look at some reactions from fans online:
"If he wasn't on the way out before, maybe he should be now," a fan wrote.
"Tell me again why I should be patient with Brian fu**ing Kelly," another fan wrote.
"Brian Kelly needs to pack his s**t tonight," another fan wrote.
Steve A. Smith believes Brian Kelly is in trouble after Bryce Underwood’s flip
Stephen A. Smith has expressed strong concerns about the precarious situation facing LSU coach Brian Kelly. The ESPN analyst argued that Underwood's flip, coupled with the Tigers' underwhelming performance this season, has intensified the pressure on Kelly.
“Let me say this, I think Brian Kelly is in a world of trouble at LSU. I think this is the kind of situation right here that can cost him his job,” Stephen A. Smith said Friday on ESPN's 'First Take'. “Because we saw them get romped on national television by Alabama.
“We’ve seen them look like a shell of themselves. They’ve already got [four] losses on the season. And then to lose a top recruit — you didn’t lose it to Kirby Smart. You didn’t lose it to Prime Time. You lost it to Sherrone Moore at Michigan,” he added.
Considering his talent and exploits at the high school level, Bryce Underwood was considered the next big thing for LSU.
Brian Kelly open to feedback from his players
Brian Kelly has further enhanced his open-door policy amid recent struggles, encouraging more player feedback to identify the issues plaguing the team this year. Recognizing that the players are a crucial component of the program, he values their insights in finding solutions.
“There’s nobody in this building that’s happy about where we are and what the outcomes are,” Kelly said on Monday via On3.com. “Essentially, what you’re doing more than anything else is getting the autonomy or the feedback from your players. Because they are stakeholders in this as well.”
Kelly entered 2024 following consecutive 10-win campaigns, with expectations that the Tigers would take the next step under his leadership.
