After just one season at Wisconsin, Tyler Van Dyke has announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The signal-caller made three appearances for the Badgers in 2024 before a season-ending injury against Alabama in Week 3 prematurely ended his campaign.

Van Dyke was a three-year starter at Miami from 2021 to 2023 before moving to Madison. He brings an impressive resume to the transfer portal with 7,891 career passing yards and 55 touchdown passes. The quarterback enters with one year of eligibility remaining.

Van Dyke's decision has resulted in a series of reactions in the college football world. With the quarterback making little to no impact for the Badgers, fans have been very direct in their words.

"Dude’s gonna be selling life insurance this fall," a fan wrote.
"Good riddance!!! He was a turd," another posted.
"I feel like Dyke has been playing college ball for a decade," a fan wrote.

There were uncertainties regarding Tyler Van Dyke’s future

Following his injury on Sept. 14, Tyler Van Dyke had to undergo surgery following a short period of rehab. He was expected to take a medical redshirt to be eligible for another season. However, Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell hinted at some uncertainties regarding his future.

“We haven’t sat and talked with him, obviously there’s been a lot of things that have happened really fast,” Fickell said. “... These situations happen, you’re in the midst of a season. I think guys got to be able to process themselves, where they are, and what they’re doing.
“We’ll sit down and definitely talk with Tyler...It is what it is, and you see where they are and where you are. But I know this, that we love Tyler, and we love what he’s done, and hopefully, there’s an opportunity that he wants to come back. That he would have that chance.”

Tyler Van Dyke started the first three games for Wisconsin in the 2024 college football season, completing 43 of 68 passes for 422 yards and a touchdown. He was expected to be crucial to the Badgers’ offense, but the knee injury cut his season short.

With Van Dyke entering the transfer portal, Wisconsin's quarterback depth now features Braden Locke and freshman Mabrey Mettauer. Additionally, the Badgers bolstered their roster during the early signing period last week, securing four-star prospect Carter Smith and three-star recruit Landyn Locke to strengthen the position.
