Jim Harbaugh's legacy still haunts Ryan Day's Ohio State. In a game in which the Buckeyes came in as big-time favorites, with a 79.6 % chance of winning the game at the start of it according to ESPN, the Michigan Wolverines got the better of Ryan Day's team 13-10.
This put the No. 2 school in the nation out of contention for the Big Ten championship, in which Oregon will now face the Penn State Nittany Lions.
It seems that enough is enough for some Michigan fans, who are already calling for Ryan Day's resignation. One of those is Barstool's writer Ohios Tate, who tweeted a video of his reaction to the loss alongside the following commentary:
"This is the worst moment of my life. You gotta fire Ryan Day. You can’t lose 4x in a row. Bring back @CoachUrbanMeyer"
This also extends Ohio State's losing streak in "The Game" to four straight games. The Buckeyes' last victory in the rivalry was in 2019 when they defeated Michigan 56-27 on the road at Ann Arbor.
The performance by the Ohio State offense was atrocious, being stopped at every turn by a dominant Michigan Defense. Quarterback Will Howard only managed to record 175 yards, with one touchdown. He gave up two critical interceptions. On the ground, the Buckeyes didn't do much better with 77 yards and no touchdowns.
Ryan Day reacts to Ohio State's unexpected defeat to Michigan
The Buckeyes fell unexpectedly, by just one field goal. Kicker Dominic Zvada gave Michigan the win with 45 seconds left in the clock, through a 21-yard field goal.
The defeat was a harsh blow to Ohio State given that it means they're now out of contention for the Big Ten championship. Ryan Day spoke to the press in the aftermath:
"We're very disappointed, and never thought this would happen right here, we expected to win this game and go play in the Big Ten championship game."
Someone who was particularly moved by the situation was quarterback Will Howard who said this following the defeat:
“It's hard, man,” an emotional Howard said. “I really don’t have much right now. I do know we're a two-loss team. We're going to get into the playoffs and make a run. But, I mean, this one hurts.”
However, with 12 spots now in the college football playoff Ohio State will likely be one of them no matter how many spots they drop in the next few weeks. Nonetheless, the question remains: Can they redeem themselves?
