Deion Sanders Jr. made his frustrations clear about Shedeur Sanders missing out on being a Heisman finalist this year. The Colorado quarterback, who won two individual honors this season, did not make the final four for the Heisman, which was won by his CU teammate Travis Hunter.
Sanders Jr. tweeted about his half-brother Shedeur, to question why the Colorado signal-caller was not named as a Heisman finalist.
"Shedeur the First college football player to be blackballed," Sanders Jr. tweeted.
Shedeur finished the 2024 regular season with 3,926 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions and four rushing touchdowns. He led the Buffs to a 9-3 record (7-2 Big 12) and almost took the team into the College Football Playoff.
For his efforts, Shedeur was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and also won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
However, instead of Shedeur, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami signal-caller Cam Ward were named as Heisman finalists, along with Boise State's Ashton Jeanty. Hunter pipped the three finalists to claim the coveted honor.
Part of the reason why Hunter won the Heisman was down to Shedeur. The quarterback linked up well with the wideout in CU's offense, combining for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Shedeur Sanders to play his final game for Colorado in 2024 Alamo Bowl
Shedeur Sanders is likely to lead Colorado's offense one final time when the Buffs play the BYU Cougars in the 2024 Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28. The game will take place at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, and will be broadcast live on ABC.
Shedeur is expected to declare for the 2025 NFL draft after the Alamo Bowl. The quarterback previously played two years at Jackson State, before transferring to Colorado in 2022.
Shedeur is considered an early first-round pick in next year's draft and he can boost his draft stock even further when he leads CU's offense in the Alamo Bowl.
