Texas signal-caller Quinn Ewers openly discussed his brief tenure at Ohio State and the reasons behind his departure from the Buckeyes on Friday. Former Buckeyes QB opted to transfer to the Longhorns after just one season in 2021.
Even the coaching change at Texas, from Tom Herman to Steve Sarkisian, did not persuade Ewers to remain with Ohio State.
In a recent episode 40 of ‘RG3 and The Ones,' Ewers elaborated on his decision, and told host and former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III:
“First off, made great relationships up there, still have good friends I go there,” Ewers said. “For me, first off, it was really cold up there, we're not quite used to all that.”
“I just have so much more resources down here, this is where I'm close to Austin, being up in Dallas, close to being from here, and just a lot more resources, close to home, close to family members. It was just a little, little bit too far for me,” he added [Timestamp - 6:38].
However, Ewers broke his silence on the situation for the first time in 2022 during an interview:
“I grew up always watching the Longhorns play, wanted to be in that burnt orange,” Ewers said [H/t BuckeyesWire]. “There was a little obstacle in between, but I ended up here and I’m very thankful for all the opportunities God has given me, and I’m just excited to be back in the home state.”
“At the end of the day, I just wanted to be closer to my family and friends and stuff like that,” he said earlier.
Since his EA CFB 25 cover reveal in mid-May, Ewers has been more prominently featured in the media than ever before.
Quinn Ewers guides Texas Longhorns' freshman QB Arch Manning
Redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning of the Texas Longhorns is taking time to learn behind two-year starter Quinn Ewers. Ewers discussed Texas’ quarterback situation this offseason.
Ewers said, Manning has more time now to develop his passion for the university:
“Obviously, he loves the university and loves the Longhorns,” Ewers said. “But kind of being able to sit back and watch, I think it’s different than playing. So him seeing what’s going on from inside, but also outside, I think that he can get a lot of intel from that.”
Ewers also mentioned that Manning has another year to grasp the offense and become more comfortable with its nuances. This setup seems ideal for Texas freshman Arch Manning, per Quinn Ewers.
