Julian Lewis caught a lot of attention on Saturday at Folsom Field as Colorado hosted Cincinnati in a Week 9 Big 12 clash. This is the USC five-star commit's fourth visit to Boulder, which fuels the rumors of him flipping his commitment to the Buffaloes before December.
Ahead of the game, Lewis was seen making his way out of the tunnel to the field, with a lot of concentration on him. He was subsequently seen on the field speaking with a host of people, including Shedeur Sanders' personal QB coach Darrell Colbert Jr. ahead of the game.
Many fans also had their eyes on him from the stands, having strong hope he would be the successor to Shedeur Sanders in the program. With his continuous visits to Boulder, there's a good chance Lewis will flip his commitment from USC to Colorado on or before the Early Signing Day in December.
The prospect of playing early for Julian Lewis
One factor that plays in favor of Colorado in the race for Julian Lewis’ commitment is the opportunity to have him as the starting quarterback as early as next season. Shedeur Sanders is playing his final season with the Buffaloes, and Lewis could take over from him in 2025.
The Colorado coaching staff has made its plan clear to Lewis during his visits, offering him some confidence. Dylan Raiola was the only freshman quarterback who began this season as a starter, and Lewis could be one of the few if not the only in the 2025 college football season.
“Colorado has a lot of energy,” Lewis told 247Sports earlier this year. “Coach Prime is super positive and motivating. Talking to coach [Pat] Shurmur and Shedeur [Sanders], they want me to make the best decision for me, but made it clear that I have the opportunity to play early."
Julian Lewis remains committed to USC
Ahead of the 2024 college football season, Julian Lewis disclosed to the media that he remains committed to USC despite links to Colorado. The frequent visits to Boulder have created a series of rumors regarding his commitment.
"As of right now, I'm still locked in with USC," Lewis said regarding his commitment in August. "That's still where my home is. You know, taking visits is kind of a part of the process, and I was going to see what's going on everywhere else, but I'm still USC right now."
It remains unknown what the quarterback’s final decision will be before the Early Signing Day. However, those close to the situation believe Colorado has a good chance. It’s worth noting that Auburn and Indiana are also in the race to secure his commitment.
