The Ohio State Buckeyes are still hunting for their first national championship under coach Ryan Day. Day took over the program back in 2019 and won two Big Ten championships, which came during the first two years of his stint. However, the last time OSU made it to the playoffs was during the 2020 season, when it lost in the semifinals to the Georgia Bulldogs.
After securing an 11-2 record last season, Day has revamped the roster in the offseason with the hopes of being a contender for the 12-team College Football Playoff. College football analyst Greg McElroy believes that Day now possesses the talent and firepower to be successful in his quest for a national championship.
During a recent episode of "Always College Football," McElroy talked about the significant roster moves that Ryan Day made for the 2024 season. He said with the level of talent that they now have, it is difficult for them to "disappoint" with a bad performance in 2024.
"They (Ohio State) obviously have a high ceiling. They also have a crazy high floor," McElroy said. "This is a team that absolutely cannot disappoint this year. They can't. It's almost impossible. Look at the additions they made this year in the offseason.
"Whether it's at offensive coordinator at number two or number one running back. This is a team that flat out can't disappoint."

Despite having a 56-8 record with the Buckeyes, Ryan Day is still arguably considered to be in the hot seat by fans. Apart from not winning a national title, Ohio State has lost every game to its rivals the Michigan Wolverines in the past three years.
Day has gone out and brought in some firepower to bolster his roster and coaching staff for the 2024 season. Some notable players that transferred to the Buckeyes this offseason include Caleb Downs from Alabama, Quinshon Judkins from Ole Miss and veteran quarterback Will Howard from Kansas State.
Ryan Day has also brought in former UCLA head coach Chip Kelly as the new offensive coordinator for the team.
Will Howard lays down expectations from his debut season with Ohio State
After four seasons with Kansas State, Will Howard is now set to lead the Buckeyes on the gridiron this upcoming season. At this year's Manning Passing Academy, Howard spoke about the expectations he has under Ryan Day in 2024. He believes that Ohio State possesses the "talent" to go on and emerge as a natty winner.
"For us, it's natty or bust. I mean, there is no doubt in my mind. I mean, we have all the talent, we have all of the intangibles, I guess," Howard said. "But now we just got to go do it. You know, I'm tired of hearing how talented we are or how good our team is.
"It's about the work ethic and how we work every single day, and I think we're doing the things that we need to put ourselves in that position to be there at the end of the year."
With the new 12-team playoff format in place, Ohio State fans will expect Ryan Day to secure a berth in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if he can go on to win his first natty with the program this upcoming season.
