Florida Gators fans have set up a GoFundMe to try and make the $26 million that is owed to coach Billy Napier if he is fired. The Gators are coming off a blowout 41-17 loss at home to the Miami Hurricanes.
The loss was frustrating for Gators fans who are calling for Napier to be fired. But the coach has a hefty buyout, so they have started a GoFundMe to raise the $26 million.
It is a funny move from Gators fans who are hoping that Napier will be fired. The GoFundMe has raised just over $500 so far, but it is, after all, a joke. So fans should avoid donating to it, as where the money is going or if you will be able to get it back is uncertain.
Napier is in his third season at Florida and he is yet to lead the Gators to a winning record. In his first season, Florida went 6-7 and went 5-7 last season before starting this year 0-1.
Florida will return to the field on Saturday at home against Samford.
Florida's Billy Napier vows to be better after blowout loss to Miami
After the Gators suffered a 41-17 blowout loss to the Miami Hurricanes, Billy Napier said the defeat was frustrating for him and the team. The coach also said the loss was embarrassing for how badly they were beaten.
"It's embarrassing, to be quite honest with you," Napier said, via ESPN. "That's how I feel. That's how our kids feel. There's no excuses. Keep our mouths shut, show up and work. We have to do better. I do think that our players will show up and they will respond."
The Gators gave up 529 yards of offense, but despite the loss, Napier has confidence Florida will play much better in Week 2.
"I felt strongly that we would perform better," Napier said. "But I'm not here to make excuses. We've got to get it fixed. We're going to get another opportunity next week, and we've got to play better and coach better."
The Gators will also be starting freshman DJ Lagway in Week 2 as quarterback Graham Mertz has been ruled out with an injury.
