Former Michigan Wolverines wide receiver Karmello English has officially transferred to his next school. To some surprise, the reigning national champion WR has gone to a Division 2 school.
English entered the transfer portal after spring practices, and according to 247Sports, he has transferred to Division 2 West Georgia.

“Karmello English is a major addition to the West Georgia program as a whole. Having Karmello committed to us at Auburn in 2022, I already knew what he brings to the table athletically. He was the No. 1 WR in Alabama in his class and was an ESPN Top 150 player. What stands out the most about him to me is his verbal & consistent commitment to continue to grow as a young man," West Georgia coach David Whitlow said.
English was a four-star recruit out of high school and had committed to Michigan. He ended up struggling to find the field, as he played just one game in 2023. He recorded one reception for four yards, which was for a touchdown, late in their 52-7 win over Indiana.
English appeared in six games, as he also served as a punt returner, but couldn't get much runway on offense.
West Georgia competes as a member of the Gulf South Conference in Division 2. In 2023, the school went 6-4 and in 2024, the school has notable games against Samford, Austin Peay and Utah Tech among others.
Karmello English thanked Michigan
After Karmello English announced he would be entering his transfer portal, he thanked the University of Michigan for everything they did for him.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Wolverine. I would like to thank Coach Harbaugh, Coach Moore and Coach Bellamy for believing in my ability to play at UM. More notably, I appreciate my teammates, Michigan fans and my support staff!" English wrote in a statement.
Although English didn't play much, it is another blow to the Wolverines' wide receiver room, which lost Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson to the NFL draft and Eamonn Dennis to the transfer portal as well.
