Former Texas running back Jonathon Brooks celebrated as his former teammate, WR Jordan Whittington was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams as the 231st overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit.

Whittington was one of the crucial players in the Longhorns’ locker room during the team’s 2023 run to the Sugar Bowl.

From being a highly sought-after four-star prospect to playing as the team’s veteran, Whittington finished his Longhorns career with 141 catches for 1,757 yards and five touchdowns.

To celebrate his friend and former teammate getting picked by the 2022 Super Bowl-winning team, Jonathon Brooks uploaded a thrilling Instagram story showcasing his and his family’s excitement.

“My dawg. You deserve it all,” Brooks wrote in one of the IG story.

Jerry Jones missed the chance to draft Jonathan Brooks

The Carolina Panthers traded up to draft former Texas running back Jonathon Brooks as the 46th overall pick. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had expressed his interest in drafting Brooks. It seemed like Jones would not let go of the opportunity to draft Brooks, as he said:

"In 30 years, I thought it was the best interview I've ever had with a player. (Brooks) is outstanding. We got him high, high, high (on our board). He’s a good player."

Fans called out Jerry Jones and wondered how he must have felt after Panthers’ move to pick Jonathan Brooks.

Since Tony Pollard left the team, Dallas required a talented running back to fill in the position.

Jonathon Brooks spent three seasons with the Longhorns and led the team in rushing during its 2023 CFP season. He was also a Doak Walker Award finalist.

His draft stock plummeted after enduring a season-ending ACL injury in November. He averaged 114 yards in ten games. He played behind Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson in his first two years and started only eight game for the Texas Longhorns.

Both Brooks and Whittington will participate in the rookie minicamp and training ahead of the NFL season, and they will try their best to make it to the 53-man regular season roster.
