Sherrone Moore is set to take on his first Big Ten Media Days as Michigan's head coach. The former offensive coordinator was promoted to the role following the departure of Jim Harbaugh from the program.
The 2024 Big Ten Media Days are scheduled to be held from Jul. 23 through to Jul. 25 at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. This venue has, over the years, hosted the conference title games. The league teams, which now count to 18, will take turns in the three days to speak to the media.
Michigan will be making an appearance at the event on the third and final day. Moore, like every other team's coach, will be joined by three players in Indianapolis.
The Wolverines' player representatives are running back Donovan Edwards, defensive back Makari Paige and tight end Max Bredeson.
Sherrone Moore to uphold the Michigan hat tradition
When Jim Harbaugh became the head coach of Michigan in 2015, he brought back the tradition of wearing the 'Skinny Block M hat' on gameday. Moore disclosed in a recent interview with Big Ten Network that he is happy to continue the tradition in Ann Arbor.
“You know what? It's pretty cool to wear this hat," Moore said. "It's the skinny 'M'. It's a tradition I wanted to carry along that coach [Harbaugh] did, and obviously, Bo [Schembechler] did. It feels different understanding and knowing the position you're in, but I'm excited to wear it.”
The 'Skinny Block M hat' was famously worn by the legendary head coach of the Wolverines, Bo Schembechler during his coaching career in Ann Arbor from 1969 to 1989.
Subsequent coaches of the football program held on to the tradition until it was abandoned in later years.
It’s possible that Moore will make his appearance at the Big Ten Media Days later this month donning the hat. He is a coach who is already familiar with the program’s traditions.
Michigan will continue playing physical
Michigan has earned a reputation in the college football world over the past three seasons for a high level of physicality in their game. Moore is determined to maintain this toughness under his leadership in Ann Arbor.
“I think the biggest thing you want to see is that you create a callous of physicality, a mentality to continue to sustain and withstand strain in tight moments, and we'll create that as much as we can in within camp," Moore said. "But also stay healthy. And we've got a great schedule ahead of us, we're excited about the schedule.”
The Wolverines will push to retain their national championship title next season. However, they face a lot of obstacles in getting this done. They’re currently not viewed as favorites for the title by the Sportsbooks odds.
