In the wake of Alabama's second defeat of the season on Saturday after a 24-17 loss against Tennessee, a concentrated effort is reportedly being made this week to restore discipline and precision across the team by Kalen DeBoer.
Tight end CJ Dippre highlighted the renewed emphasis on taking pride in the renewed focus on the small things. The senior explained how this focus on meticulousness is being integrated throughout the entire program ahead of the Week 9 encounter against Missouri.
"We got to just kind of take details and the small things," Dippre said Tuesday. "Don't get bored with the basics. Get back to what we're supposed to wear -- shirts tucked in, five minutes, 10 minutes early to meetings. Not all this late stuff. Not doing what you want to do.

"Just little things like that carry over to the football field. Because then if you take one wrong step, one wrong thing, it just all carries over. So you got to act everything, all throughout the day. Going to class on time. Everything is like would want to do on the football field."
This new approach by Kalen DeBoer hasn’t impressed Alabama fans who are used to high standards under the leadership of Nick Saban. Here’s a look at some of the reactions to the move online:
Other reactions to the new approach:
"he really destroyed the discipline of the program in seven games," a fan wrote.
"Gumps are down bad," another fan wrote.
"Sad that this is where we're at this late into the season...," a fan commented.
"Wtf...this is stuff you address over the summer," another fan commented.
The urgency for Kalen DeBoer to turn things around at Alabama
The current scenario is an unfamiliar one as Alabama has lost two games before November for the first time since 2007, Nick Saban’s inaugural season. This calls for some level of urgency to get things sorted by Kalen DeBoer and his coaching staff.
Focusing on the small things is one way the playwrs seemingly believe they can get on the right track. Wide receiver Germie Bernard gave further insight into the team’s concentration on the finer details.
"[Coach Kalen DeBoer] knows that we have to do better," Bernard said Tuesday. "He's just gonna continue to instill in us the things that we need to do to be better, and to be better in practice. Be better off the field.
"Be more disciplined with the things we need off the field, like just making sure we're checking in on time, making sure we're getting to meetings on time. Things like that. With the mindset that he has, our team -- we still have everything in front of us that we want. I think we will accomplish that."
Since the second quarter of their Sept. 28 game against Georgia, Alabama has been struggling on the field, marking a downward trend. The Bulldogs almost staged what would have been the biggest comeback victory in a top-five game in college football history. Alabama eventually prevailed 41-34.
Alabama ranks seventh in the nation in penalty yards per game, averaging 78.3 yards, a concerning statistic for an FBS team of their caliber. This evidently showcased the high level of indiscipline in the team under Kalen DeBoer as many analysts and former players have voiced out.
