No. 8-ranked LSU (6-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) quarterback Garrett Nussmeier had an up-and-down performance against No. 14-ranked Texas A&M (7-1, 5-0) on Saturday. His performance allowed the Tigers to jump out to a 17-7 lead at halftime, but it was also a big reason they were not able to generate much offense in the second half. Ultimately, the Tigers lost 38-23.
Garrett Nussmeier stats against Texas A&M
Looking at Garrett Nussmeier's stats, it would be easy to think that he had a good performance and was let down by his defense in the second half. However, upon closer inspection, it is easy to see why his performance was a contributing factor in LSU's loss.

Nussmeier had a solid game in terms of counting stats as he threw for 405 yards and two touchdowns. However, he only completed 25 of 50 passing attempts and threw three interceptions, all of which came in the second half.
Garrett Nussmeier was able to put up a lot of passing yards, but only because he threw the ball so many times. Additionally, all three of his interceptions led to Texas A&M putting up points.
His first interception came early in the third quarter and gave Texas A&M the ball on LSU's 8-yard line. The Aggies scored on their first play of the drive with an eight-yard run.
The next came two drives later when Nussmeier's pass was intercepted by BJ Mayes on the LSU 26-yard line. With the ball in LSU territory again, it only took five plays for the Aggies to score again and take a 28-17 lead at the end of the third quarter.
When LSU was trying to get back in the game in the fourth quarter, Garrett Nussmeier threw an interception with six minutes left that effectively ended the game. The Aggies got the ball at the LSU 38-yard line and scored a field goal for a 38-23 lead.
This season, Nussmeier only has one game with more yards than what he had on Saturday. However, along with the three interceptions, his passing efficiency was the second-lowest of the season. The three interceptions led to 17 points for Texas A&M, and LSU lost by only 15 points.
