Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart spoke about Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning after what has been a strong first half for the Bulldogs.
Smart told the ESPN broadcast at halftime:
"He's [Manning] a little better athlete. He can run."
The Bulldogs had an excellent first half in their showcase encounter with the Longhorns.
As the teams went into the locker rooms at halftime, the Bulldogs had a 23-0 lead.
Georgia was able to overcome Texas' offensive line, making things hard for quarterback Quinn Ewers, who struggled for most of the half.
These struggles forced Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian to make a change at quarterback, replacing Ewers with Arch Manning.
This is a turnaround from what Sarkisian had been saying all week, where he has committed to Ewers being the starting QB for as long as possible.
In the build-up to the game, many fans wanted Manning to start, despite Ewers being the official starting quarterback for the team.
However, after another poor performance from Quinn Ewers and the subsequent swap, could this be the moment when Arch Manning officially takes over as the Texas Longhorns' quarterback?
Arch Manning's impact on Texas
In the run-up to the game, the Georgia coach made some more comments about Arch Manning (via The Mirror):
"They’re both [Texas quarterbacks] really good. I’ll say this. You watch the games that Arch [Manning] has played, he played really well. He did some really good things. I mean, look at his numbers. He played, and he comes out first couple plays against Mississippi State, ripping it and firing it in his first SEC play, and he played really good.”
Before Saturday's game, Manning had thrown for 901 yards and nine touchdowns, while Ewers had thrown just below that in terms of yardage for the same number of touchdowns.
However, as Kirby Smart mentioned in his halftime interview, what seemingly sets Manning apart from Ewers is his mobility.
This allows him to quickly evade advancing Bulldogs defenders, helping Manning to get into a position to be able to throw the ball to an available receiver or to rush with it himself.
