The Georgia Bulldogs under coach Kirby Smart made hard work of their clash against embattled coach Billy Napier's Florida Gators in Week 9 of college football action. The Bulldogs were tied 20-20 in the fourth quarter before pulling away to win the game 34-20.
Ahead of the Bulldogs' Week 11 clash against coach Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss Rebels at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, the team is dealing with some injury concerns stemming from the Florida game.
One of them is influential running back Trevor Etienne, who left the Gators game with an apparent rib injury and wide receiver Anthony Evans, who did not make an appearance due to a hamstring injury.
In his postgame news conference, Kirby Smart gave an update on some of his injured stars including Etienne.
"Etienne, I feel good about," Smart said. "He felt good yesterday and did some things yesterday with our guys, and I don't know a lot until we get out there and practice today. But we'll certainly see how he feels. The trainer feels good about him. The big thing is just his ability to sustain and deal with a little bit of pain, he's gonna have some there. But he is a tough kid, and I think he'll do well with it."
He also providds updates regarding Roderick Robinson (foot) and Smael Mondon's (foot) availability.
"Yeah, again, we're hopeful to get those guys back (Robinson and Mondon)," Smart said. "I mean, I don't know at what point it's gonna happen. But each one of those guys are rehabbing, working their butts off, and hoping to get back to help the team soon."
Other Georgia players on the injury list include Jordan Hall (shin) and Branson Robinson (knee).
Kirby Smart's Georgia slight favorites against Ole Miss
Coach Kirby Smart's No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs are 2.5-point favorites for the game against the No. 16 Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford.
Despite being preseason favorites for a spot in the expanded college football playoffs, the Rebels under coach Lane Kiffin, have already lost two games this season. Another loss is likely to knock them out of contention.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs, after a setback against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 5, bounced back with a thrilling victory over the Texas Longhorns in Austin.
The clash in Oxford between Georgia and Ole Miss will be the marquee matchup of Week 11 in college football, with far-reaching implications for both teams.
