Lane Kiffin led his Ole Miss team to an iconic 28-10 win against Georgia in Oxford on Saturday. The Rebels entered the game as the underdog with their College Football Playoff hopes on the line. However, they were able to put out a dominant performance that saw off the Bulldogs.
Following the disappointing losses to Kentucky and LSU earlier in the season, the win against Georgia has elevated Ole Miss in the race for a spot in the playoff. The Rebels dominated the Bulldogs in the Saturday encounter, showcasing the brilliance of Lane Kiffin as a coach.
The upset on Saturday has led to a lot of criticism for Kirby Smart and his Georgia team. Fans were largely disappointed at the performance of the Bulldogs in Oxford, leading to a series of backlash. Here's a look at some of the reactions online:
"Georgia is the most overrated team in college"
"You completely owned them today. You might as well take the bulldog home with you as well," one fan suggested.
Other reaction to Ole Miss' win:
"This Georgia team sucks anyway," a fan wrote.
"Welcome to the SEC puppies," another fan wrote.
"What an upset! The underdogs triumph over the powerhouse. Incredible game by the Rebs," another fan wrote.
Lane Kiffin says the win has been in play for a year
Georgia blew out Ole Miss 52-17 in Athens last season and that pretty much changed a lot of things for the program. Lane Kiffin acknowledged that after their loss, he and his staff have adjusted their approach, focusing on finding a way to overcome the challenge of top games.
“A year ago we lost to these guys by like 30,” Kiffin told ESPN’s Molly McGrath on the field after the game. “We made a decision we’ve got to recruit differently. We’ve got to go shopping. We planned for this game for a year, game-planned all offseason.”
The plan was a success for Kiffin and his staff following the win on Saturday. A dominant win over one of the best teams in the country places the Rebels in the playoff picture once again.
Lane Kiffin elated with the win against Georgia
In his postgame press conference on Saturday, Lane Kiffin expressed his excitement at being able to overcome the mighty Georgia. It's probably the most notable win for him as a college football coach. (Start at 0:26)
“There's not been a signature game like this. It's been close, when Alabama was here and all that. So, just really happy because I know we've been close with games and for our fans to be able to enjoy this.”
“That's a great Georgia team. Won, outside Alabama, has won 51 straight games against people since COVID. Just happy for our players too. To play that way in what ends up being kind of dominant, to win with three scores is a lot of people doing a lot of things right.”
Since arriving in Oxford in 2020, Kiffin has enjoyed considerable success, with two seasons of 10 or more wins, including a Peach Bowl victory last year. However, despite the impressive win totals, he hadn’t managed to defeat one of the SEC's top teams—until Saturday.
