In the past two years, Georgia Bulldogs players have been plagued by a raft of charges related to reckless driving, speeding and racing. Last year after celebrating their second consecutive national championship win, the program was plunged into mourning after a fatal crash led to the deaths of recruiting officer Chandler LeCroy and prospect Devin Willock.

This year has been no different with five Bulldogs players arrested for various driving offenses since March 24 starting with highly rated commit, running back Trevor Etienne who was arrested and jailed.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck who spoke during the SEC media days addressed the fact that he drives a Lamborghini while throwing shade at some of his teammates who were caught up in driving offenses.

“Let’s clarify I don’t like fast cars, I like cars,” Beck said. “Obviously, my car is fast, 100 percent, but I don’t drive like an idiot.”

Running back Savoie White was among the Georgia athletes arrested for traffic violations. On Wednesday, both cornerback Demello Jones and linebacker Smael Mondon were charged with reckless driving.

Offensive lineman Bo Hughley was involved in a car crash on Thursday and was charged with reckless driving to continue the trend of Bulldogs players falling afoul of driving rules.

Kirby Smart condemns Georgia player's conducts

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart condemned the actions of the players who had fallen foul of driving offenses during the SEC media days.

“The incidents that we’ve had off the field are not something that that we condone,” Smart said. “It’s very unfortunate, disappointing I guess is the best word. I always talk about process and outcomes. I talked about that with wins and losses that we try not to base things on the outcomes with wins and losses. In this situation, the outcomes are very disappointing."

The two-time national championship-winning coach said that the program would take action against prospects who violated driving rules.

“We’ll have suspensions coming out of some of these,” he said. “I think everybody wants to know, what game and are they suspended? That’s probably an important things in terms of the discipline, the culture that they get to experience.
"We’ve done more as far. As I know. There’s not one team in the country that’s every suspended a player for traffic violations. That’s what Marcus Rosemy got suspended for (last year)."

The Georgia Bulldogs are widely regarded as preseason national title favorites, but off-field troubles are not the best way to begin a season that holds so much promise for Kirby Smart's team.
