Georgia's QB coach Mike Bobo delivers verdict on Gunner Stockton after Carson beck's decision to declare for the NFL draft 

Carson Beck, the Georgia Bulldogs quarterback, started the season as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. He will end it on the sidelines due to an injury. This will mean that Beck is going to miss the Bulldogs game with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This will form part of the second round of the CFP, and the winner will be one step closer to winning the national championship.

With Beck out of the game, the Bulldogs have turned to backup quarterback Gunner Stockton. In the build up to the game, Georgia's quarterback coach, Mike Bobo, said the following about his team's new quarterback:

"He has approached every game as he is the starter. I think that it has prepared him for this moment. If you asked him this last year, he wouldn't have had the same mindset." (1:40)

Stockton has never started a game at the college level and has played sporadically during his time with the Bulldogs. The game against Notre Dame is set to be a massive challenge. However, Stockton does have some experience in big games.

Due to an injury to Beck earlier in the game, Stockton played a good part in their SEC Championship game win over the Texas Longhorns. This win was important, as it put the Bulldogs not only into the College Football Playoff but it gave them a first-round bye.

During this game, Stockton was able to throw for 71 yards, going 12 from 16. He also threw one interception. While this isn't a record-breaking performance, it is experience on a top stage. This will serve as preparation for what is going to be the biggest game of his career so far and could be the start of the Stockton era in Athens.

Kirby Smart on Stockton's impact on the Georgia offense

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart has also given his take on his new quarterback. Stockton is somewhat more mobile than Beck is, and Smart has said how this is going to affect the Georgia offense.

"You know, I think we are who we are in regards to that. I mean, we've played an entire season offensively. Gunner's a good athlete. I think Carson's (Beck) a good athlete. So it's one of those deals. I don't know how much that changes things," Smart said.

According to Smart, the change in quarterback is going to have no real impact on the offense. The Bulldogs are stacked with numerous talented players, so they could carry Stockton and Georgia to victory, as they have done when Beck struggled.

But, if Stockton cannot cope with a strong Notre Dame defense, it is likely to be a debut to forget.
