LaNorris Sellers gets into gear after slow start to the season

Taking over from Spencer Rattler, who left for the NFL via the 2024 draft, was always going to be demanding, and LaNorris Sellers started the season in an inconsistent fashion. During his first five games, he went 65-of-108 (60.2%) for 764 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions, and the South Carolina Gamecocks went 3-2 in that period.

In coach Shane Beamer's next four games, the Gamecocks won all four, recording blowout wins over the Texas A&M Aggies and the Oklahoma Sooners on the back of stellar performances by Sellers.

Sellers has since gone 64-of-101 on 63.4% completion for 1,010 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception, coinciding with the uptick in South Carolina's form.

During his Missouri postgame news conference, Beamer explained the change made by Sellers in the past few weeks, which coincided with his form.

"I think steady and just doesn't really change his persona," Beamer said. "I really haven't seen a change in him. I don't know if outspoken is the word, but I think he's more willing to speak up in some ways. I don't know if he would have voiced his displeasure back in September.
"He is who he is. I know he's very confident, very poised. He's a competitor. I go to those quarterback meetings pretty much every morning. ... He's the same guy in there. He's never comfortable, but I think he's more at ease maybe."

Before the game against the Alabama Crimson Tide, where Sellers registered 238 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, he was averaging 138 yards per game. Afterward, he averaged 236 yards, accounting for seven touchdowns to show the quarterback's improvement.
