There's no doubt that the New York Giants need to gain a quarterback in the offseason. But the big question surrounding Big Blue is: which one?
The Giants have the third pick of the 2025 NFL draft. This puts them in the running for either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, the two top quarterbacks available in the draft class. But other options are available.
One person who thinks that the Giants should look for other options is former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz. His plan, which he told Fox Sports on Sunday, is simple.
“I think we should get one of those veteran guys in free agency, build our roster for another year, be competitive the next year and then go all in on Arch Manning the next year after that,” Cruz said.
This is something that a good number of Giants fans agree with. The fans want to see an immediate change in fortunes, and gambling on a quarterback in this class, which is not seen as strong, especially when compared to last year's class, is not the best strategy.
There are better QBs available in free agency (like Kirk Cousins, for example) who can hold the line while the team builds other parts.
Additionally, the Giants may not even get a chance to take one of the top quarterbacks, and the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns (who have the first two picks) are also in the hunt for a QB.
By drafting a "bridge QB" and building the other areas, they will be a quarterback away from success. Then, according to Cruz, they should bring in Arch Manning.
Manning is expected to take over the Texas Longhorns' quarterback role from Quinn Ewers next season and is widely expected to do well (potentially bettering the two semifinal appearances that Ewers gave them), and individually. He should be a high draft pick when he declares.
To ensure the Giants get Manning, moves may have to be made through trades. But it may all be worth it.
Who could the Giants pick according to Victor Cruz?
If they don't take a quarterback this year, who does Victor Cruz think the Giants should pick with the third pick?
“I like Travis Hunter. You put him with Malik Nabers and give him some plays on defense? Come on. It’s hard to pass that up. That’s that game-changer I’m talking about. That’s that guy that you can’t game-plan for. ...
"Imagine a team having to game-plan for a guy on defense, and then be like, ‘Oh, by the way, he’s gonna play 30 snaps on offense.’ He’s a guy that can really do some good things for us.”
The Colorado Buffaloes' Hunter is likely to be the best nonquarterback available. If the Giants have the opportunity to draft him, they should. He would boost the emerging offense with star wide receiver Nabers and begin to improve the defense. From here, both sides can continue to be developed until Arch Manning comes along.
