Carson Beck entered the transfer portal on Thursday, after spending four seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs. The signal-caller backtracked on his decision to declare for the 2025 NFL draft to play one more year at the collegiate level.
After news broke that Beck was entering the transfer portal, Georgia insider Aaron Murray dropped his verdict on the quarterback. Murray correctly suggested that Beck would make between $3 million to $5 million, although he could see him doing so at Georgia with some new receivers:
"Smart move. Gonna make $3-5 million next season somewhere. Maybe back at UGA with some new wideouts?" Murray tweeted.
Beck eventually transferred to Miami on Friday, after the team offered him a reported one-year, $4 million deal.
Beck had a relatively underwhelming 2024 season at Georgia. The quarterback completed 290 of 448 passes for 3,485 yards and threw 28 touchdowns, with 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown, leading Georgia to an 11-2 record.
Beck suffered an elbow injury in Georgia's Southeastern Conference title game win over Texas. He was then ruled out for the Bulldogs' College Football Playoff, which lasted just one game following a 23-10 loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. Gunner Stockton led the offense for Georgia in Beck's absence.
Carson Beck will aim to boost his NFL draft stock with Miami
On Friday, Carson Beck committed to Miami. Per reports, the quarterback signed a one-year, $4 million contract to join the Hurricanes for the 2025 season. Beck's agents and camp have said that the move is a logical decision for the quarterback and was not backed by pure emotion.
Before the 2024 season, many believed that Beck was the favorite for the Heisman. Several others also predicted that the quarterback could be the top pick in the 2025 NFL draft. However, due to Beck's relatively poor season at Georgia, his draft stock took a hit.
The good news for Beck is that he has one year of college eligibility remaining to boost his stock once again. He has the chance to do that at Miami in the 2025 season and it will be interesting to see if he manages it.
