The Las Vegas Raiders might have hurt their chances of drafting Shedeur Sanders in April. The team is among the NFL's worst. Fans have believed that the Raiders could be looking to draft Sanders to help lead the team next season. However, their win against the Jacksonville Jaguars could impact their odds.
Las Vegas (3-12) won 19-14 over Jacksonville (3-12) on Sunday. The Raiders trailed 14-13 entering the fourth quarter. Instead of tanking for the NFL draft, the team made a comeback to get the victory. The final scoring drive came when Ameer Abdullah for a 7-yard touchdown. Raiders quarterback Aidan O'Connell completed 24 of 38 passes for 257 yards.
After the win, some fans voiced their frustration on X/Twitter.
One fan suggested the team may settle for Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the draft.
"Raiders going to be stuck with Dillon Gabriel lmao," a fan wrote.
"Dont remind me. Raiders and pointless December wins have held us back for years.," a fan replied.
"Maybe it'll work out for the best, they could trade for Fields or Cousins, and then use their pick on something else, win-win!" another fan suggested.
"Bye Bye Shedeur (Sanders)," another fan wrote.
Other fans commented on Las Vegas' win and believe they still have a chance to draft Sanders.
"I don't think we "blew" anything. Jags and Titans still play and realistically only the titans and giants are taking QBs," a fan commented.
"I think they still get him. Titans vs. Jaguars next week too, Titans should win that with Mason," a user wrote.
What team could be in a position to draft Shedeur Sanders over the Las Vegas Raiders?
Las Vegas's win tied the Raiders with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville. After Week 16, the New York Giants (2-13) have the NFL's worst record. On Sunday, New York lost to the Atlanta Falcons (8-7).
The Giants could be looking to draft Sanders after releasing Daniel Jones after six seasons on Nov. 22. New York has Drew Lock playing as the starting quarterback.
Sanders played catch with wide receiver Malik Nabers in New York City on Dec. 14, fueling speculation that he could be on the team's radar. If the Giants continue to lose their remaining games, they could be able to draft the Colorado Buffaloes' star player to lead the franchise next year.
