The Miami Hurricanes lost another game and fans pointed at Mario Cristobal as the main culprit. Miami wasted a late lead and lost the Pop-Tarts Bowl 42-41 against the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday.

Miami's once-promising season ended on a sour note. It was the third loss for the Hurricanes in their final four games. After Miami missed out on the ACC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff, losing a bowl game added insult to injury for many fans.

The Hurricanes still haven't won any bowl games in three years under Mario Cristobal. With Cam Ward leaving for the NFL, the Canes will have to restructure for the 2025 season.

Fans on social media lobbied against the coach. Here are some of the reactions following the Pop-Tarts Bowl defeat.

"Guy is garbage. Zero personality on top of it," said a fan about Cristobal.
"Can you take him back please. We demand a refund. I was so upset when we hired him," another fan added.
"I think Miami is finding out why Oregon was not upset with Mario Cristobal left Eugene," answered another fan. He is an elite coordinator, horrible head coach. #TheU, said another fan.
"But hey, they beat a 7-5 Florida team!," a fan considered, mocking the early season victory over the Gators.

Other fans pointed toward Cam Ward leaving at halftime as the reason the Hurricanes lost the game. Miami was ahead at halftime 31-28, but only scored 10 points for the rest of the game.

"So lemme get this straight. Cam Ward decides to play in the bowl game but when his team is down by 1 with 45 seconds left, you choose to sit out the final drive and you’re not injured??? Cmon man," one fan wrote.
"Doing what Cam Ward just did is 10000% times worse than opting out," added a fan.

Cam Ward or Mario Cristobal? What happened to the Hurricanes in the second half?

While there are plenty of people pointing at Cam Ward and/or Mario Cristobal, there were plenty of reasons the Miami Hurricanes lost the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Ward’s absence hurt the offense as should have been expected. Mario Cristobal didn’t mention whether Ward discussed his plan to sit in the second half before the game. So it’s unknown if Miami could have prepared better as Emory Williams couldn’t get into a rhythm.

The offense added only 10 points in the second half and didn’t even get close to field goal territory on its final drive.

However, Mario Cristobal’s defense was an issue again. It’s not only that they surrendered the game-winning touchdown at the end of the game, but while Ward and the offense produced 31 first-half pints, the defense surrendered 28.
