Kirby Smart and his team face another stern test this weekend as the 2024 regular season draws closer to an end. No. 2 Georgia makes a trip to Oxford on Saturday to play No. 16 Ole Miss in a high-stake encounter that holds a significant postseason implication for both teams.
In his weekly media availability ahead of the crucial game, Smart offered his view on Lane Kiffin's team and its explosive offense. While the Bulldogs have already faced a strong offense in Steve Sarkisian's Texas, Smart does not see both offensive teams in the mold.
"Hard to compare,” Smart said when asked if the offenses are comparable. "I don't like doing those comparisons because they're different offenses, different style offenses. They're both very talented, and Sark and Lane have a lot of history together.
“You don't watch the two offenses and think they look the same. Different style of passing game. They have really good wideouts at Ole Miss. They've been through injuries, and yet they've still continued to throw for lots of yards.”
Kirby Smart praises Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart
Without a doubt, Jaxson Dart has been crucial to the rise of Ole Miss under the leadership of Lane Kiffin. The quarterback has been one of the best in the landscape in the last couple of years, and he drew the praises from Kirby Smart ahead of their meeting in Oxford this weekend.
“They've got a guy [Jaxson Dart] that can do it,” Smart said. “This guy's playing uncanny football when you talk about the accuracy, the completion percentage, the yards he's throwing it for. He's not throwing dink and dunk passes now. This guy is throwing the ball vertically down the field.
“Then, when you do that, let's say you cover all that, and you do that, he can take off and run. You watch a quarterback run reel on this guy, and you don't have enough people in the box.”
So far this season for Ole Miss, Dart has thrown for 3,210 yards and 21 touchdowns with three interceptions in nine games. With three regular season games to go, the quarterback is primed to have his best season in college football statistically.
Dart is expected to present some challenges to Smart and his Bulldogs team at the Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium on Saturday. Having limited Quinn Ewers and the Texas offense earlier this season, Georgia will fancy its chance of stopping Dart and Ole Miss.
