The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets had an injury last week as junior quarterback Haynes King was not able to finish the game against the North Carolina Tar Heels. At the start of the fourth quarter, King was able to lead a touchdown drive but after that, he did not return to the field.
It was not disclosed exactly what the Haynes King injury was. However, Coach Brent Key shared the current status of his QB on 680TheFan, Monday afternoon.
"Day-to-day with it right now. We'll see how the week progresses." h/t On3
Haynes King had a solid overall game against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, which led to a 41-34 road victory.
King went 11-of-22 for 127 yards through the air but also ran the ball 11 times for 107 yards (9.7 yards per attempt) with a pair of rushing touchdowns.
If he is unable to play, backup quarterback Zach Pyron would be under center, as Pyron took over for the injured Haynes King.
What would an extended injury to Haynes King mean for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets?
The actual injury to Haynes King has not been disclosed, leaving a lot of uncertainty surrounding his status. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been outstanding this season, as the team is a win away from being bowl eligible at 5-2 thus far.
They have a tough schedule for their final five games of the regular season. Below is the remaining schedule of Yellow Jackets.
- 10/19: vs 12 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- 10/26: at Virginia Tech Hokies
- 11/9: vs 6 Miami Hurricanes
- 11/21: vs NC State Wolfpack
- 11/29: at 5 Georgia Bulldogs
While it appears the injury wouldn't be of a serious nature as we approach 48 hours since it happened and no news has come out outside of Brent Keys' update. This Yellow Jackets team actually runs the ball extremely well, ranking 25th in college football with 204.4 rushing yards per game.
If Haynes King is not able to play in this week's game, it should not be a massive setback, as the Yellow Jackets should continue to play well throughout the season until he's able to recover from the injury and play.
