Arch Manning got his most minutes in a game for Texas on Saturday against UTSA after Quinn Ewers left the game due to an oblique injury. Manning led the Longhorns for more than two quarters in the emphatic win against the Roadrunners, making the most of his chance.
Manning's performance in the game had drawn the attention of the college football world. On Sunday, college football analyst Brad Crawford gave his views on the quarterback’s performance when asked if Texas is a better team with Manning.
“I believe it is and I tweeted that last night,” Bradford said. “[I] caught some reactions from it. But you saw what Arch did in basically two and a half quarters last night, five touchdowns. He's been ready to assume this starting role for Texas for like 15 months now. He's played well.”
“This is the most talented quarterback room in college football, Sark said it throughout the offseason and we believe we have two starters here … With Arch Manning, this offense did not change … And he can move a little bit better than Ewers can on the run.”
Manning completed 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns in the 56-7 victory against UTSA on Saturday. He also rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown in three carries to exert Texas’ dominance in the game.
Brad Crawford believes Arch Manning will shine In Quinn Ewers’ absence
With Quinn Ewers likely out for the next game against Louisiana, Arch Manning is going to get a lot of game time for Texas. Brad Crawford believes the former five-star prospect will have a great time leading the Longhorns offense as their Southeastern Conference schedule draws closer.
“I don't think Quinn Ewers’ injury is going to be long term and the Oklahoma game is still five weeks away but they're probably going to take it lightly,” Crawford said.
“Let Arch Manning probably get double-digit touchdowns over the next two or three starts depending on when he comes back. I think Texas, with Ewers at quarterback or with Arch Manning, is still a top team in the country and deservedly so.”
Texas will be out against the ULM in its final non-league games in Week 4 before starting their time officially in the SEC. The Longhorns’ first SEC encounter will be against Mississippi State in Week 5 before proceeding on a bye in Week 6.
There's a lot of anticipation for the first Red River Rivalry in the SEC as Texas and Oklahoma come up against one for the first time in their new conference.
