Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders is not usually who experts talk about as the most likely Heisman Trophy candidate in Colorado. Instead, that honor goes to two-star Travis Hunter, who has been among the Heisman favorites for most of the season.
Coach Sanders, who is worth $45 million (via Celebrity Net Worth), believes Shedeur should get consideration for the Heisman Trophy. Although he is not unbiased in the matter as the father of Shedeur, he does get to see both him and Travis Hunter up close every day.
On Wednesday, he responded to a tweet in favor of Sanders being in the Heisman conversation. He wrote:
"My man he's a Sanders! That right there applies u for hate. He's built for it tho. Keep the slong playing."
Deion Sanders responded to a tweet that highlighted some impressive stats for Shedeur Sanders. According to the tweet, he leads college football with 195 completions, ranks in the top four for completion percentage at 72.2%, is among the top five in passing yards with 2,268, and stands in the top five for passing touchdowns with 19.
How likely is it for Shedeur Sanders to win the Heisman Trophy?
While Sanders is having an excellent season, he is not viewed as a likely Heisman winner. FanDuel gives him the 12th best odds to win the Heisman at +6000. Although it is impressive to be viewed as the 12th-best player in college football this season, that does not mean he is likely to win the Heisman.
Shedeur Sanders is not even the most likely player on the Colorado Buffaloes to get votes for the Heisman Trophy. Instead, Travis Hunter is more likely to contend for the trophy. He is ranked fourth with +1500 odds. He was ranked higher earlier in the season, but his playing time was limited in the last two weeks because of injuries, and as a result, his odds dropped.
Three top contenders have emerged for the Heisman Trophy based on FanDuel's odds. Miami quarterback Cameron Ward and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty are tied for first with +200 odds. Then Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel rounds out the top three with +350.
There is a steep drop off after that to Travis Hunter at number four with +1500 odds. It is an even steeper drop to Shedeur Sanders in 12th with +6000 odds. So, his chances of winning are not high.
