Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers came up victorious in the Peach Bowl against Kenny Dillingham's Arizona State Sun Devils as he led coach Steve Sarkisian's team to a nervy 39-31 win to reach the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. Ewers tallied 322 yards resulting in three touchdowns and one interception while adding one score on the ground.

Next up for the Longhorns is a clash against Ryan Day's Ohio State Buckeyes — Ewer's former team. As a five-star prospect from Carroll Senior High School in Texas, Ewers committed to the Longhorns in 2020 before switching his commitment to the Buckeyes in the Class of 2021.

He then transferred to Sarkisian's Longhorns in December 2021 and has been the first choice QB since he arrived in Texas.

College football fans on X had mixed reactions to the matchup pitting Ewers against the Buckeyes.

Some predicted that he would have a difficult game against Ohio State.

"he's getting exposed," one fan tweeted.
"Pretty sure the Buckeyes are going to rock his world," another fan said.
"After what I saw yesterday he’s going to get spanked. They better figure out whatever was wrong before next week," one fan wrote.

Quinn Ewers criticized after Peach Bowl

Quinn Ewers has received equal parts criticism and praise from various analysts over the past few weeks. After his Peach Bowl performance against the Arizona State Sun Devils, Colin Cowherd on "The Herd" was highly critical of the Texas QB.

"Too many times on the passing game it's a jump ball. Like he (Ewers) doesn't have defined reads," Cowherd said on Thursday. "Too often it's just like, 'let's get better players and throw a ball up the sideline.' Is that Ewers or Sark?"

Former NFL scout John Middlekauf also blamed the Longhorns' struggles to close out important games on Ewers turning the ball over during critical moments of the game.

"Yeah, to me, I've been as critical on Sark as anyone over the years," Middlekauf said on Thursday, via 'The Herd.' "I'm gonna defend him here. I think you can look at Ewers' box score, it doesn't look that bad. He's 20/30, 322. To me, he's a liability. This is a national championship roster without a national championship quarterback. How many times this year have Texas been in a position where they can really put the nail in the coffin and Quinn Ewers turns the ball over?
"Or they're down in a game like against Georgia and they're coming back and he turns the ball over? I mean, if he was an NFL player, he would be highly highly criticized. And I would imagine the Texas Reddit community and the football community, he's a pretty polarizing guy and everyone's like 'We're going to Arch Manning next year, no ifs and buts about it.'"

A recent report by On3 has linked Ewers to a mammoth $6 million offer to enter the transfer portal and join an unnamed program to get away from the constant Arch Manning comparisons rather than declare for the 2025 NFL draft.
