Johntay Cook II’s future will not be in Austin. The sophomore has officially entered the transfer portal after leaving the Texas Longhorns in November. That move has sparked interest in college football fans around the country, many of whom are hoping their school lands the transfer.
According to reports from On3 analysts Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos, the Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies are a couple of teams to consider as landing spots. Fans from both schools began to speculate as well as to the possible destination of the DeSoto, Texas, native, answering that same post.
"He going to Oregon like his buddy Evan Stewart did", a fan said.
"he's gonna go to oregon and be a star", another fan added.
Others weren’t as confident in Johntay Cook II taking his talents to Eugene. Some fans even suggested going to Oregon would be a mistake, especially because of the program’s depth at the position.
"Oregon? they have like 25 5 star receivers. He won't be goin there.", a fan added.
"Bro wouldn’t play a snap at Oregon. They have like 4 better wr", another fan said.
Fans from other teams also shared their predictions on where Johntay Cook will land.
"It’s so obvious he’s a red raider", a (possible Texas Tech) fan said.
"He’s coming to Minnesota", another fan responded.
Johntay Cook comments on Colorado coach Deion Sanders' IG post
Johntay Cook II was highly recruited, as 247 Sports had him as a 4-star prospect and the No. 7 wide receiver of the 2023 class. However, after committing to Texas, the expected results didn’t come by.
After seeing little action as a freshman, Cook II had eight catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns in four games, before leaving the team in November of his sophomore season. During his time in Austin, the receiver caught 16 passes for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Oregon figures to be a popular landing spot for Cook after his long-time friend and fellow wide receiver, Evan Stewart, arrived there after transferring from Texas A&M. Cook and Stewart have been friends since their high school days.
Cook II also sparked some speculation about Colorado after he left a message on Buffs coach Deion Sanders' Instagram post.
“I ain’t hard 2 find”, Johntay Cook II wrote.
Cook II is still considered a 3-star prospect as a transfer, per 247 Sports, so there should be a large number of programs looking to add him. Among the schools reported to have already reached out to the DeSoto High School product are Ole Miss and Oregon, but others could be on the way.
