Quinn Ewers was widely anticipated to be one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 college football season following his decision to return for his senior year at Texas. Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow commended Ewers while previewing the Week 2 game between Texas and Michigan in his appearance on a recent installment of “The Paul Finebaum Show."
Ewers is already getting a lot of praise in the early days of the season, and showed a glimpse of what fans can expect in 2024 in the opener against Colorado State. Tebow was so impressed that he made an early Heisman prediction:
“I’m excited about both those games (Texas at Michigan, Arkansas at Oklahoma State), but so excited about Quinn Ewers,” Tebow said on Friday on “The Paul Finebaum Show.”
"I think he’s got an opportunity to be one of the best players in the country. I think he’s got a chance for the Heisman. I think Texas has an opportunity for the College Football Playoff again, just like last year. I’m excited about this team.”
Quinn Ewers' chemistry with his new receivers
Quinn Ewers did very well in 2023 with Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and Jordan Whittington as his main receivers. However, his three favorite targets have moved on to the NFL.
While Texas has developed a new group of talented receivers, including Isaiah Bond and Matthew Golden, Tebow explained that there’s a need to build chemistry for the Longhorns to succeed:
“I still think they’ve got to figure out a few things in connection with Quinn and these receivers,” Tebow said. “Last week was very impressive, but you could see some plays where they’re figuring out, ‘Where are you going to be at, when are you going to break, we’ve got to be on the same page,’ but this Texas team has a lot of pieces.”
Tim Tebow praises Texas offense
Texas undoubtedly has one of the best offenses in college football, but Tim Tebow had a lot of praise for the entire team:
“Man, they’re physical, and their offensive and defensive line,” Tebow said. “They’ve got some explosive playmakers, and in the backfield and at receiver they can run. They’re big, they’re faster, and more physical. You’ve got an experienced quarterback. If they put it all together. There’s something special that could be there.”
The offense has been a core part of Steve Sarkisian's success in Austin in the last couple of years. The Longhorns were No. 9 in total offense in 2023 with 477.5 yards per game, leading them to the Big 12 championship and the College Football Playoff.
