Since arriving at Colorado, Shedeur Sanders has boasted the biggest NIL valuation in the college football world. The quarterback is undoubtedly one of the biggest benefactors of the modern concepts that allow student-athletes to benefit financially from their popularity.
However, former NFL quarterback Jake Plummer expressed some concern about the future of Shedeur Sanders amid the huge money he’s making. Speaking on the “Guerilla Sports” podcast show, Plummer, who has a net worth of $30 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, questioned what the ambition and future of Sanders look like in football.
“Does Shedeur aspire to go the league? Some people are motivated differently. I don’t know if he wants to be the greatest quarterback ever or if he wants to just make $500 to $600 million and become a billionaire. That might be what he wants. Who knows? If he wants to be the greatest in the league, he’s got a long way to go.”
Jake Plummer has some advice for Shedeur Sanders
While Shedeur Sanders makes a lot of money despite being a college player, Jake Plummer offered some advice to the Colorado quarterback on Guerilla Sports show.
Explaining how money can impact the trajectory of a player's career, the former Arizona State quarterback noted how hard work aided him in having a noteworthy career in the NFL.
“I’d put some of that money into building the places you go to train because I never stopped working. Even when I was in my seventh year in the league, I was working hard. I was working hard to get better. So money can change that, change your viewpoint.”
Jake Plummer believes money can be distracting
Without a doubt, the world of sports has witnessed many athletes changing when coming in contact with money. Plummer said money can really be distracting and that Shedeur Sanders needs to balance a lot of things up to have a brilliant career.
"It’s distracting, you have to balance more stuff, you have more opportunities. You want to fly to Vegas right now? ‘Let’s go, I got money now.’ ‘We’re suppose to study Shedeur.’ 'I’ll do that when we get back. We’ll do it on the jet on the way back.’"
"Maybe you do if you’re disciplined but if you’re not It’ll take you out of that drive. I don’t like it. I think it is actually just a representation of our world."
Sanders enters his senior season in college football in 2024, marking his second with Colorado. He started his collegiate career at Jackson State in 2021 before moving to Boulder with his father last season. He is currently anticipated to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
