Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has seen his share of struggles in coach Kalen DeBoer's first season in charge. In seven games this season, Milroe has already thrown as many interceptions as he did last season under Nick Saban, with six.
Some have put the team's struggles on the shoulders of Milroe, including a former Crimson Tide QB. On Wednesday's episode of "McCready & Siskey," AJ McCarron discussed Milroe's challenges this season.
"I love Jalen," McCarron said. "I think he's a hell of a player. He's just not a quarterback. Like, a pocket guy like he tries to be. That's not his forte, that's not his positive. His biggest positive is also his biggest negative. His biggest negative is he doesn't use his feet enough. He needs to be a one-two-read guy, go."
McCarron feels Milroe hasn't used his rushing ability enough as one of the nation's best dual-threat QBs. Though Milroe has some of the best athleticism of any QB in the FBS, he has been hesitant to run with the ball in Alabama's last three games.
Jalen Milroe's rushing numbers playing role in Alabama's slide
Alabama's last three games have been one of the team's worst stretches in the past decade. The Tide are 1-2, barely topping South Carolina for their lone win during this stretch.
A common factor has been Milroe's rushing numbers. In the Tide's win over the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 5, Milroe ran the ball 16 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
Since then, he has notched just 57 rushing yards. In their historic upset loss to Vanderbilt, Milroe tallied just seven carries for 10 yards.
For the Tide to find their stride offensively, they will look to their QB to run with the ball. Milroe has held the ball looking to pass as of late, rather than pulling and using his legs to pick up yards on the ground.
In seven games, Jalen Milroe has recorded 91 carries for 330 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 3.6 yards per carry.
