Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was spectacular in the Buckeyes' dominating 41-21 win over the top-seeded Oregon Ducks. It ends coach Dan Lanning's national championship dreams. Smith registered 187 yards on seven receptions resulting in two touchdowns to book the Buckeyes' place in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

During his postgame news conference, Lanning was full of praise for Smith's abilities.

"He's (Jeremiah Smith) strong. He attacks the ball in the air as well as any receiver I've seen," Lanning said. "I mean the guy's NFL-ready. He's that talented. He's very special. And Will Howard did a good job getting the ball to him tonight and he's tough to defend. He's physical, he's got all the tools, so, really talented player."

Smith had a sensational breakout season for the Buckeyes tallying 1,224 yards on 70 receptions resulting in 14 touchdowns to establish himself as one of the most talented wide receivers in college football alongside Alabama Crimson Tide's Ryan Williams.

College football fans on X had mixed reactions to Lanning's comments about Smith being NFL-ready.

Some fans put the comments down to sour grapes by Dan Lanning.

"He mad as F**K," one fan tweeted.
"The smug little grin isn’t there like it was a few days ago at the joint press conference with Day. Why?" Another fan tweeted.
"He got humbled tonight.." one fan tweeted.

Jeremiah Smith gets NFL hype from analysts

After his performance against the No. 1 Oregon Ducks, Jeremiah Smith got the ultimate compliment from ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky during Wednesday's segment of the "Get Up" show regarding his draft status.

“Well, they have a player that – if Smith came out in the draft this year, he would be the number one pick,” Orlovsky said. “Not even close. He would be a shoo-in to be the number-one pick.
“In the playoff, he’s got 13 catches for 204 yards and four touchdowns. Those four touchdowns go for 37, 22, 43, and 45. They’ve got the best player left in the playoff. He would be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft this year. He’s Julio Jones."

After the game, Fox Sports analyst Jordan Schultz also shared on X the insight that he had gotten from NFL scouts regarding Smith's potential.

"Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith drawing rave reviews from an NFL executive: 'He might be the most advanced receiver I’ve ever seen at that age. To be so young and so technically sound, then you add the physical tools and things get pretty freaky. Like some built in a lab stuff,'" Schultz tweeted.

Smith will have the chance to further strengthen his burgeoning potential against the Texas Longhorns in the semifinals of the college football playoffs.
