“He’s a quiet kid” - Georgia HC Kirby Smart speaks about Miami transfer WR Colbie Young on being a potential game changer for the Bulldogs

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart had high praise for transfer wide receiver Colbie Young.

Young transferred from Miami to Georgia in December for his final year of college eligibility. In the past two seasons at Miami, he had 79 receptions for 939 yards with 10 touchdowns.

During spring practices, Smart has been impressed with what he has seen from Young.

“He has integrated himself into that group really well,” Smart said of Young. “He’s not the alpha leader, he’s a quiet kid. What impresses me about him is he’s showing up on special teams. I’m like, when you show up on special teams and you show a commitment to blocking and holding people up, he’s been a really good special teams player.

"We sold him that if you came here, you had to buy into those values. It’s made him tougher, more physical. He’s a big body, he’s a tough matchup for all teams. I’m pleased with where he is.”

Young will fill a void in Georgia's wide receiver core after Ladd McConkey was selected in the 2024 NFL draft.

Entering the 2024 season, Young is projected to be behind Rara Thomas at the X spot but will get plenty of snaps throughout the game on special teams and on offense.

Kirby Smart eager to put 2023 season behind him

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are eager to start their college football season.

Georgia failed to make the college football playoffs last season after losing in the SEC Championship game to Alabama. Kirby Smart said he's just excited to play football and focus on winning another championship in 2024.

"I'm so excited to go out there and get an opportunity to play," Smart said, via SI. "I'm tired of all of the talk about NIL, and all of the talk about portal and all of the complaining. Let's go play football. Let's get our team against their team and let's go see where we stand and let's go play."

Georgia will open its 2024 college football season on Aug. 31 against Clemson. The Bulldogs also have notable games against Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee among others.
