Quarterback Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns were eliminated from the College Football Playoff on Friday when they lost 28-14 in the Cotton Bowl against the Ohio State Buckeyes. After the game, fans were waiting to see if Ewers would announce his decision to enter the 2025 NFL draft.
Although Ewers has not explicitly announced that he is declaring for the draft, a report from insider Pet Thamel indicated that he will soon declare. After the game on Friday, Colin Cowherd posted a video on YouTube discussing the game.
In the video, Cowherd talked about Ewers and why he thinks he is a flawed player. He even said he thinks he is nothing more than a sixth-round pick.

"You start to look at the quarterbacks that were in the playoffs. I'm not a huge Quinn Ewers fan," Cowherd said. "I mean a year ago everyone was telling me he was a first rounder. I think his mechanics were hit and miss. I don't think he elevates others. He made a couple of nice plays in this game.
"But again, Sark's screen game, the electric perimeter players Texas has. He made a nice throw, very patient in front of a massive offensive line to a tight end. That stuff's not as available in the NFL. I don't see Quinn Ewers, to me he's a sixth round pick in the draft. I think Will Howard moves much better. Bigger stronger athlete."
Cowherd added:
"It's just funny that Quinn Ewers is one of the highest paid guys in college football. I think I'm pretty good at the quarterback thing. I didn't like Zac Jones, I didn't like Daniel Jones, I did like Darnold.
"I think over the course of time, I've missed on some quarterbacks but I'm pretty accurate on the quarterback stuff. I like it. I've talked to a lot of people. I don't really see it with Quinn Ewers."
Quinn Ewers is unlikely to be a first-round pick
Most draft experts agree that the 2025 NFL draft has a weak quarterback class. As a result, some weaker quarterbacks could get drafted in the first round by some desperate teams.
Despite that, Ewers is still not viewed as anything close to a first-round talent by most scouts. Pro Football Focus ranks him as the eighth-best quarterback and 125th-ranked prospect overall. That would place him as a late fourth or early fifth-round pick. However, he was ranked behind Carson Beck who committed to Miami on Friday.
